We’re on the lookout for a Financial Control Manager to join our Finance team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, Salford Quays, Manchester or Guernsey to support our growth journey.

With the introduction of new finance systems, planning for TM1, onboarding Workday as a replacement for the general ledger and deployment of an ERP, it’s a great time to join our fun and high-performing team on the onset of an exciting journey.

With strong leadership inspiration and coaching skills, together with robust analytical, communication, influencing and organisation skills, you’ll be accountable for the design and maintenance of the Group’s financial controls framework along with the wider finance senior leadership team. 

Supporting the business during its five-year plan, including current and future growth plans, you’ll provide and maintain an enhanced control environment as a specialist financial discipline whilst maintaining some independence to the wider operating model, allowing impartial assessments that are proportionate and risk based, aligning to the Group’s overall risk appetite.
 
Job responsibilities
  • Accountable for the design and continual monitoring of the Group’s financial control framework, across finance and the wider business
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring and escalation is in place on key operating financial metrics
  • Accountable for the storage, training and maintenance of key policy and procedure documentation across the Group, ensuring control reviews and evidence is in place across the teams
  • Assess business and finance change for key control identification, control weakness and gaps requiring mitigating controls, while working with business and change leaders to ensure these are understood and accepted into the change delivery programme
  • Lead the investigation, review and recommendations following a material error, omissions of evidence of lack of oversight in a financial transaction(s) across the Group
  • Working with Compliance, Risk and internal audit to ensure the finance KRIs, risk control framework and key controls are resilient, proportionate and effective
  • Lead the ongoing review and continuous improvement of controls, across all of finance, in place for the preparation of all financial statements (internal and external reporting)
  • Ensure proportionate oversight in second and first line financial controls are in place across the business and within finance reconciliation, as well as maintaining audit trails to ensure proportionate safeguarding the risk of fraud, error or omission
  • Ability to provide cover for finance systems and finance operations manager
  • Horizon monitoring in financial service regulatory change that could impact the Group, provide assessments and recommendations across the finance functions and SFLT
  • Lead deep dives across the business and within finance of key financial transactional processing to ensure proportionate and appropriate controls are in place, providing a written assessment for the relevant business owner
 
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Qualified accountant ACCA/ACA and Insurance accounting, IFRS or UK GAAP together with direct and indirect tax
  • Significant qualified accounting experience and leadership of an accounting function within a regulated market
  • Experience in growing and developing frameworks and strategy in a high-growth business
  • Experience in a Group accounting function across multiple tax and regulatory jurisdictions
  • Experience in SOX, COSCO frameworks across a multi-divisional Group
  • Work effectively under pressure and think clearly and logically in challenging situations
  • Empathetic approach to leadership with an ability to get the best out of a wide range of stakeholders
  • A driven attitude to deliver controlled change and rapidly overcome obstacles
  • An agile approach to project management and able to rapidly react to changes in business priorities to take advantage of emerging business and customer opportunities
