We’re investing in several core roles to strengthen overall capabilities in the Finance team, so we’re on the lookout for two Senior Group Accountants to join us at our offices in either Haywards Heath, West Sussex, Salford Quays, Manchester or Guernsey, as we go through an exciting time of transformational change and growth.

You’ll be a crucial part of a team that supports the development and execution of First Central’s financial and regulatory accounting shared service function and be responsible for the assessment and review of complex accounting due to business or regulatory changes.

Job responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and preparation of the annual statutory and quarterly regulatory reporting obligations of the Group. Specifically, the owner of the Group’s annual financial statements
  • Review commercial and operational activity (legal substance and form) and consider impacts on the Group and subsidiary financial statements, evaluating options and recommendations to ensure reporting on business performance is accurately represented for both management and financial statements
  • Review and maintain controls in place for the preparation and integrity of the company’s direct and indirect tax returns
  • Assess and recommend options and assessment of impacts to the board(s) for the Group and operating subsidiaries to comply with applicable accounting standards through design and maintenance of the Group’s operating accounting policy/procedure
  • Ensure adherence to the Group’s wider financial control framework, ensuring timely and accurate financial records
  • Challenge and recommend changes in accounting approach to ensure higher quality monthly financial reporting and allow better performance insight for the commercial and operating units of the business
  • Conduct management duties including, coaching and feedback to direct reports to achieve KPIs and SLAs, conduct regular performance reviews, probationary reviews and annual appraisals, monitoring absence, conducting disciplinaries and assist in recruitment processes
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/regulations, maintaining department risk registers, providing evidence and commentary for controls, updates for mitigation actions and maintaining control matrices and attestations
 
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Qualified accountant ACCA/ACA with experience gained in an insurance accounting, IFRS or UK GAAP
  • Significant leadership of an accounting function within personal lines insurance and/or intermediary market, together with direct and indirect tax know-how
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in growing and forming a high-performance team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a Group accounting function across multiple tax and regulatory jurisdictions
  • Strong communication, analytical and organisational skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and think clearly and logically in challenging situations,
  • Results driven with a constant eye on the detail alongside the ability to understand the audience
  • A driven attitude to deliver controlled change and rapidly overcome obstacles
