Fancy a new career in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace? If so, this could be your lucky day! We’re looking for a Data Governance Steward to join our Technology and Data teams in Salford Quays, Manchester, or Haywards Heath, West Sussex.   

We are looking for somebody who will support Data Governance best practice within the Underwriting Function of FCG, current processes and inflight projects to the overall FCG Data Governance Framework. This is an exciting opportunity where you will be involved in the monitoring and auditing of the way data is used to ensure it is aligned with the governance framework, including analysing the quality and reviewing the content as well and providing the capability of reviewing data from various sources, outputting detailed analysis using manual review alongside tooling, and then helping to define and execute a remediation plan of any Data Quality Issues.  You will play a key role in delivering improvements across the organisation and will support  the day to day delivery and long term data governance strategy ensuring strategic change, and BAU change data quality and governance is delivered on time, engaging with Development, Architecture, Data Change, IT Ops, business teams, and senior stake holders.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Will be an experienced professional, with a technical leadership background gained within a fast paced environment, able to engage with all levels of management.
  • Be able to maintain and deploy Data Governance Systems and controls.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of how to implement data policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of data governance delivery.

Job responsibilities:

  • Support the continued development and delivery of the Data Operations Data Governance support teams.
  • Be responsible for current data admin tasks and use your expertise to make updates improving them when possible.
  • Support Data Audits.
  • Perform operational activities of data lifecycle management
  • Support the projects on analysing the changes and testing the systems ensuring a good quality of implementation.
  • Provide input and review of standards, metrics, procedures, enterprise business data glossary and data model.
  • Define, perform data quality analysis, identify data quality issues, data quality requirements.
  • You will interpret requirements and present data in a clear and compelling way, using graphical representations and data visualisations.
  • Support the continued development and delivery of the Data Operations Data Governance support teams.
  • Apply statistical methods and data analysis skills. You know about statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques.
  • Implementing information & data policies and standards through the data stewardship process.
  • Being the Process Owner for the Information & Data Stewardship Process
  • Implementing & Publishing an SLA Dashboard within your area.
  • Work closely with business source system data owners, users, and custodians to ensure the root cause of reported data issues are understood and remediated in accordance with defined standards.
  • To support the Governance Library including all data governance artefacts
  • To provide support and guidance in the application of methods and lifecycle management of information and data to support design, development, delivery, implementation and exploitation of data.
  • Positively communicate with team members, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the Company Values feature at the heart of department activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Company and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times.
  • Continuously evaluating and representing the Function with Senior Leadership and other Directors.

Experience & knowledge

  • Experience in a data role.
  • Good experience/understanding of all elements of data engineering (extract/transform/load), visualisation, analytics.
  • Maintain and Deploy Data Governance Systems and controls.
  • Understanding of how to implement data policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of data governance delivery.
  • Understanding of Data Modelling from Conceptual through to Physical
  • Experience of Data Lineage, Data Catalogue and Meta Data Management
  • Knowledge of data governance processes, tools and techniques used to deliver highly available, performance and scalable platforms and systems to distributed customer and user communities.
  • An understanding of data system architectures including storage, compute (including analytics & machine learning).
  • Understanding of GI Insurance preferable but not essential.
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements specific to the Company and the functions under control including GDPR.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent Analytical Skills.
  • Ability to Profile Data.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Azure DevOps, ITIL, Azure Synapse, Databricks, PowerBI, Data Factory, HD Insights, Python Sparks, and have a strong IT service background.
  • Understanding of Data Modelling concepts such as TOGAF
  • An understanding of Lean / Continuous Improvement tools, thinking and methodologies.
  • Good communication, both verbal and written.

  • Change management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, identifying root causes and offering solutions

  • Knowledge of the UK Insurance industry preferable.
  • Experienced in delivery of commercial targets in complex environments.
