We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Data Product Owner to join our Technology and Data Team in either Salford Quays, Manchester or Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

The Data Product Owner takes overall responsibility for the successful identification, prioritisation and delivery of data products and services in line with business needs and expectations for their product(s). Working with agility and a mindset of experimentation, fail and learn fast, and iterative value delivery, the Product Owner will develop and own the broad roadmap for their product in consultation with their customers, which balances outcomes that deliver direct value with activities that improve the efficiency and quality of the product, and those that develop the team itself.  This is a key role leading one or a number of data product teams, the role holder will build collaborative relationships with their internal customers, Business Change delivery, Architecture, Data Operations and the broader Data and Analytics functions, in order to optimise the delivery lifecycle, reduce handoffs and improve overall flow efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and own the vision and roadmap for your product, created in tight consultation and agreement with your business stakeholders, and one that balances feature development with product improvement.
  • Take full responsibility for the requirements, management, and delivery of items in your product backlog, ensuring a clear, transparent, prioritised backlog.
  • Effectively prioritise and co-ordinate the work carried out by your product team, considering value, delivery feasibility, and time.
  • Build exceptional working relationships with your Product customers, working from their perspective in represent their needs to your product team and the broader D&A function.
  • Align your product team’s plans with wider change delivery plans across other Data and Analytics products to ensure optimal delivery of data change.
  • Drive the innovative use of data to support the achievement of business ambitions, bringing art of the possible thinking, and early prototypes to demonstrate value.
  • Embed Agile and Lean practices into your product, being relentless about improving flow using measurement and insights to spot opportunities to optimise product delivery.
  • Provide clarification and refinement of user stories and non-functional requirements to your product team.
  • Become the Data SME for the Data and Analytics function within the data subject areas and business domains in which you work.
  • Lead one or a small number of data product teams (max 8 FTE per product) in a matrix management approach.
  • Adhere to the Company values at all times and encourage others to demonstrate these
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/regulations at all times
  • Any other reasonable duties as required

Job Specific Competencies:

Qualifications / Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a Product Ownership (or similar) role
  • A broad data background, across, data requirement elicitation, data visualisation, data engineering, and data governance, with likely deep experience in one or more disciplines.
  • Excellent understanding and experience of working with visualisation tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Qliksense etc
  • Experience of creating and maintaining roadmaps for Data & Analytics functions.
  • Background in creating data user stories as part of agile delivery methods.
  • Use of delivery management tools such as Confluence, Azure DevOps, Jira.
  • Good grounding in agile software change practices, ideally in a data function.
  • Previous application of LEAN thinking and methods to optimise flow efficiency.
