We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Underwriting & Assurance Analyst to join our Underwriting & Assurance team in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

The Underwriting & Assurance Team are tasked with using analytics and insight to drive the ongoing optimisation of the FCG underwriting footprint, and the monitoring of underwriting and pricing performance, to support the delivery of profit and volume targets for the business.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to and support various projects pertaining to these areas, produce analysis to support the team’s wider objectives, and proactively seek ways to improve existing processes in the Pricing & Underwriting Department.
 
Job responsibilities
 
  • Use analytical and statistical techniques to support the iterative optimisation of the Underwriting Footprint
  • Support the development and maintenance of analytical tools, reporting suites, and appropriate feedback/action loops, to enable the efficient and accurate operation of the Pricing & Underwriting Performance Monitoring and Assurance activities
  • Creation and maintenance of analysis programs, tools, and predictive models written in SAS, RADAR, EMBLEM, Python/R and other software packages
  • Production of ad-hoc analyses to support business decision making
  • Providing inputs for expenses, profit and capital into pricing models and roduction systems
  • Internal monitoring of the Reinsurance Programme and contribute to the modelling and assessment of future Reinsurance Programme considerations and parameters.
  • Ongoing analysis of Competitor Underwriting activity and Market Developments
  • Compiling timely and accurate information/analysis for management decision-making purposes.
  • Be a conduit for change and improvement within the Pricing and Underwriting area and wider business.

Experience & knowledge
  • Experience with analytical programming languages, such as SAS, Python and R preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and analytical techniques Knowledge of personal lines general insurance preferred
  • Strong commercial acumen.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • Minimum 2:1 in a numerical undergraduate discipline
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems
  • Data and statistical analysis skills preferred
  • Strong IT skills (including Excel and ideally programming skills) preferred
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Logical thinker with solid reasoning ability
  • Commercially focussed
  • Emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy
