We currently have an exciting opportunity for a SICL Reinsurance Lead to join our Underwriting team in Gibraltar.

With responsibility for the co-ordination of the analysis of the company’s risk portfolios and risk retention levels, you'll support the planning of the SICL reinsurance strategy to ensure timely negotiation of reinsurance treaties with reinsurers partners and brokers.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Have proven experience in the general insurance and reinsurance business and its regulatory framework

  • Hold or be studying towards CII Qualifications – preferable but not necessary

  • Have excellent understanding of Commercial and Business landscapes.

Project Management for Annual Renewal Placement

  • Organise the reinsurance renewal process in co-ordination with the reinsurance broker

  • Lead on and administer reinsurance agreements, including communicating, negotiation with reinsurance brokers and partners, contract development, execution and documentation

  • Support the completion of certain post placements activities such as treaty summaries, placement checklist and management reports

Administration & Processing activities

  • Assist in the administration and processing of bordereaux issuance, validation, and settlement processes. Including, interacting with and investigate variances with the Data teams

  • Project management, deliverable control, follow up of actions, decisions and summary / status reports for reinsurance related activity.

Governance and the Overall Risk Management

  • Assist with the oversight of SICL Reinsurance Governance, including control of the planner, projects schedule and partner/outsourcing performance (SLAs, risk, etc) management

  • Drafting, review, and maintenance of reinsurance policies and procedures, manuals and processes.

  • Participate in committee and management meetings, as and when required, particularly in the reinsurance, claims and underwriting areas.

  • Collect, collate, verify and provide technical information to facilitate decision making

  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards / regulations at all times, including RIR and TCF.

Credit Risk Management & Exposure Monitoring

  • Responsible for collating and reviewing reinsurance reporting prior to full internal distribution

Relationship with reinsurers and reinsurance brokers

  • Responsible for the daily management of the reinsurers and brokers’ information, queries, and audit requests, especially in regard to reinsurance, underwriting and Claims matters.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of UK Motor Insurance industry

  • Knowledge of Reinsurance programmes and the Reinsurance market

  • Understanding of the general insurance and reinsurance business and its regulatory framework

  • Experienced in reinsurance activity/role

  • High degree of data and presentation skills – especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • Completed or studying towards CII Qualifications – preferable but not necessary

  • Knowledge of corporate governance practices

  • Excellent understanding of Commercial and Business landscapes

  • Experience managing senior stakeholders at Management, Executive and Board level

  • Diplomatic, personable and pragmatic

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work at pace against challenging deadlines
