Applying for a job or starting work at a new company can be a daunting process. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. Just take a look at our guide on what to expect when you apply for a job here, or when you arrive for your first day with us…
Joining us
So you’ve been offered a job with us and are about to start working here? Congratulations! We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
Welcome
If you’ve not already received it, a welcome email should be winging its way to you very soon, which is full of lots of useful information, including your offer pack and details about your first day.
Take a look at how to find us, so you know where to go on your first day. You’ll find information on the local area here too.
Before you start, you may want to find out a bit about our leadership team, so you can put some names to faces.
When you arrive for your first day, you’ll spend the morning meeting your new team and being introduced to lots of new faces. Don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch! You’ll also be shown around the building so you know where all the important things are, like fire exits, toilets and tea and coffee making facilities.
Lunch time
When it gets to lunch o'clock, it’s up to you whether you want to go out and about to explore the local area, or stay in the office and relax in the chillout area, which has microwaves, toasters and vending machines for all your lunch needs.
If you decide to get out and about, here’s our guide to the local amenities.
Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Capital House is right on the edge of The Broadway, which is home to a great selection of bars and restaurants including Café Rouge, Côte and Pizza Express. Some places will even give you a discount if you show your First Central card.
If you just want to grab a quick sandwich, Fine Baps is just a couple of doors up from the office, or Waitrose is a 7-minute walk and Sainsbury’s is 10-minutes away. Costa is also within easy walking distance. The town centre is close by, where you can find a number of high street stores, banks and eateries.
And there are some parks nearby that are ideal for a lunchtime picnic when the weather is nice. Or if you’re feeling energetic, they make a great jogging route.
Exchange Quay, Manchester
Within the Exchange Quay complex, you can find Quay Café & Restaurant and Bean Café, as well as a convenience store, which sells a variety of breakfast and lunch options. Alternatively, the Co-op, Greggs, Subway and Tesco are just a short walk away, and Media City is two minutes away on the tram, which has some great restaurants and bars, such as The Alchemist, The Botanist, Nando’s and Wagamama - perfect for socialising after work.
Guernsey
Our Guernsey office has a beautiful terrace that overlooks the harbour and the Islands of Herm & Jethou. So when the weather's nice, you can often find many of the team eating their lunch out there and catching some rays.
Alternatively, the town centre is just a 10-minute walk down the hill where you’ll find an array of coffee shops, award-winning bistros & restaurants, supermarkets, high street and boutique shops.
Gibraltar
The town centre is on our doorstep, with plenty of duty-free shops along the high street, as well as a great selection of restaurants and cafés to choose from at lunchtime.
If you're a fitness fanatic, there are plenty of gyms in the area, or you could walk up the Rock and Med Steps for some outstanding lookout points, with views of Africa and Spain and meet our famous Barbary apes.
Induction
We want to ensure you’re as prepared as you possibly can be prior to starting your role with us, and with this in mind, we run monthly inductions. The length of your induction will very much depend on your role. Contact Centre employees will be provided with the full 3-week induction, while others can choose from a range of relevant buzz sessions (we like to call them Pick ‘n’ Mix).
In addition, you’ll be invited to our First Central Experience Day, where you’ll learn all about our business, our people and your future. This session is run by a member of our Learning & Development team and is for all new starters, so you’ll get the chance to meet other newbies just like you. Your manager will advise when your Experience Day and induction will be.
Benefits
There are lots of benefits to working at First Central. If you’ve not had a sneaky peek already, take a look at some of the great benefits we offer our employees. You’ll be provided with all the information you need on how to take advantage of these when you start.
What to wear
Our dress code is casual, but please don’t wear anything that may cause offence to others, such as
T-shirts with inappropriate slogans, football shirts, skimpy beachwear or impractical footwear, such as flip flops.
When meeting external clients, we ask that our employees be professional and consider wearing appropriate business attire.
All set?
We hope this has helped prepare you for your first day at First Central. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact your line manager or the Talent team, who'll be happy to help.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
