Cloud Solutions Architect

We need a Cloud Solutions Architect to join our Architecture team in either Haywards Heath, West Sussex, or Salford Quays, Manchester.
To help define how technology should and will be used to satisfy the objectives of FCG and its customers. The Cloud Solution Architect will work with the Head of Architecture, and Technology Teams to convert business requirements into solutions. The Cloud Solution Architect will have demonstrable experience in the design, delivery, and ownership of enterprise-scale Azure Data solutions, acting as a Subject Matter Expert and proponent of Cloud Technologies.
 
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
  • Experience in solution definition of Azure Cloud Data projects, with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, Cognitative Services, Data Bricks and Power BI
  • Working with Engineers in agile teams to support lower level design and provide decision
  • Extensive cloud migration experience
  • Best Practice Cloud Architecture, at scale, in a regulated environment
 
Job Responsibilities
The Cloud Solutions Architect is responsible for understanding the business need and for translating that into appropriate design. You’ll be responsible for the ownership of design, articulating it to delivery teams and stakeholders whilst ensuring adherence to Architectural Principles.
 
  • Responsible for the architecture and design of cloud solutions
  • Fulfil the role of a subject matter expert in Azure Application Architecture and solutions, supporting others in their development and growth.
  • Work with the Head of Architecture to assist in the definition of the Enterprise Architecture, Product and Cloud Strategy
  • Provide Analytical skills into understanding and communicating design specifications to facilitate technical development including the creation of both high-level architecture and detailed design documentation (including impact estimation). 
  • Support the development teams in delivery and ensure solution understanding.
  • The role does not have an infrastructure focus, but requires an appreciation of infrastructure and security working closely with the Infrastructure Architect
  • Contribute to the management of development backlogs, sprints and deliveries
  • Work to the agreed prioritisation of requirements by understanding the business priorities, the technical capability and the strategies of both the business and technology
  • Ensure Solutions support the architectural direction of FCG technology and internal platform Product Strategy
  • Review internal and external solutions for suitability, making recommendations to the Head of Architecture and Focus Design Authority
  • Assists in the identification of root causes and fixes for major incidents where required
  • Maintain accurate timesheet reporting on activities undertaken
  • Responsibility for maintaining department risk registers (as applicable), providing evidence and commentary for controls, updates for Mitigation Actions and maintaining control matrices and Attestations. Also, to ensure that your employees are aware of their responsibility to identify and report risk.
 
Skills, knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent experience in delivering value from cloud-based big-data technologies including:
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Data Bricks
    • Data Lake
    • Synapse
    • Cognitive Services
  • Extensive cloud migration experience
  • Best Practice Cloud Architecture, at scale, in a regulated environment
  • Understanding of the retail Insurance business
  • Understanding of regulation and legislation applying to Insurance and Financial Services companies
  • TOGAF Certification is desirable
  • Azure Certification is desirable
 
  • Knowledge of a structured yet agile approach to delivery
  • Knowledge of analysis, design and modelling techniques
  • Knowledge of system and use case modelling and requirements gathering techniques
  • Knowledge of Architectural patterns
  • Good leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills at all levels, externally and internally
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • Problem solving skills, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problem
  • Identification and management of risk
  • Ability to create and maintain sets of reference architecture documentation
  • Knowledge of Solution and Enterprise architecture in Azure, development experience is desirable
  • A detailed thinker and with a ‘can do’ attitude and an aptitude for creativity and problem resolution
  • Commercially focussed and results driven
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
