We’re First Central Insurance & Technology Group (First Central for short), an award-winning innovative insurance and technology organisation, delivering market-leading motor insurance, underwriting, distribution, finance, technology and legal services.

We’re on the hunt for a talented Project Manager to join our Business Services team in either our Salford Quays, Manchester or Haywards Heath, West Sussex offices.

This role will be responsible for the delivery of multiple, concurrent change initiatives in a predominantly agile delivery environment aligned to SAFe best practice, and First Central’s Change Delivery Framework (CDF).

You will ensure delivery activity is iterative in nature, value-led, to time and quality, and produces a constant flow of value for the business measured by improvement in North Star metrics.

You will also actively contribute to continuous improvement activity across the PM practice, supporting iterative development of the PM capability and the wider CDF.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Demonstrable experience of managing a diverse change portfolio with concurrent initiatives underpinned by proven dexterity, creativity, and the efficient use of resources
  • Proven understanding and demonstrable experience of applying Project Management tools and techniques in an agile delivery environment
  • Advocate for continuous improvement, enhancing the PM practice, and supporting iterative development of our tools, techniques, and the wider agile system

Job responsibilities:

  • Effectively and efficiently deliver a suite of change activity comprised of multiple, concurrent initiatives and backlog items, with specific responsibility for the planning and delivery of non-technical enablers, including all integration and communication with non-technical teams (internal & external), whilst ensuring delivery alignment with associated technical features and technical enablers to maximise business value (co-ordinate flow)
  • Manage change of varying scale, leading and co-ordinating delivery activity as described, whilst working with Head(s) of Portfolio, Product Owners (PO) and Company Objective Leads to support the creation and maintenance of strategic delivery roadmap(s) and frequent, timely delivery of small change activity (N.B.; technical product roadmaps are created and managed by Product Owners)
  • Fully understand and plan for the business impact of change, working closely with Product Owners to choreograph and co-ordinate all business readiness activity, ensuring effective and efficient BAU transition and business change adoption
  • Direct the activities of third-party providers ensuring delivery to time, quality, and budget.
  • Actively manage delivery risks, issues, and dependencies, including communication, resolution, and escalation, with a view to sustaining regular and timely delivery of value for the business (protect flow)
  • Maintain delivery momentum and direction, delivering change to the agreed scope, timeframe, and budget, with resource planning and accurate estimation treated as fundamental principles 
  • Practice a progressive stakeholder management approach, supporting the PO in managing customer expectations for deliverables, stakeholder communications, and implementing an effective system of delivery governance, including securing appropriate and timely approvals to proceed (maintain flow)
  • Adopt appropriate, proportionate governance in line with the defined change category, scale, and delivery approach
  • Actively monitor and QA change delivery activities and deliverables ensuring artefacts are complete and to prescribed standards
  • Create, control, track and report on change plans and budgets with responsibility for monitoring and reporting financials & budgetary commitments (where explicitly aligned with an initiative / theme)
  • Matrix tasking management of resources assigned to change initiatives as appropriate
  • Progress reporting to senior leadership teams through Steering Groups and other governance forums as appropriate utilising established Lean Portfolio management reporting and monitoring processes.
  • Adhere to the Company values always and encourage others to do the same
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/regulations always (including TCF)
  • Any other reasonable duties as required

Job-specific competencies

Experience & knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience of managing the delivery of change activity using a variety of delivery methodologies, e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a diverse change portfolio with concurrent initiatives underpinned by proven dexterity, creativity, and the efficient use of resources
  • Proven understanding and demonstrable experience of applying Project Management tools and techniques in an agile delivery environment
  • Solid experience of all stages of the project delivery and software development lifecycle
  • Experience of engaging and managing third parties
  • Experience of working within an FCA regulated industry, ideally within Financial Services or Insurance
  • Knowledge of Project Management techniques covering both Business and IT Change
  • Knowledge of Agile delivery approaches, ideally Scrum
  • Knowledge of FCA requirements (including TCF)
