We’re looking for someone to join our  Technology and Data team as a Senior Product Owner in our offices in either Haywards Heath, West Sussex, Salford Quays, Manchester, Gibraltar or our offices in Guernsey.

The Senior Product Owner is responsible for a collection of technical systems underpinning the business pillar.  This includes the change agenda, which is represented as a product roadmap, the run time environment including service monitoring and alerting, and the risk/audit landscape as it relates to the Products under management. In the change capacity the Senior Product Owner is responsible for defining Stories and prioritising the Backlogs for scrum teams to maximise value delivery while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of any Features or components.  The Senior Product Owner is supported by specialist technical capabilities from the Architecture, Information Security and Infrastructure departments.

The Senior Product Owner reporting to the Head of Technology Portfolio works collaboratively with Line-of-Business Product Managers and other stakeholders to enact their vision and strategy by way of a forward-looking Product Roadmap which is regularly reviewed and updated based on business demands, reporting progress against this roadmap to the various governance forums as well as maintaining robust controls over Product level spend, ensuring that investments (whether in new features, infrastructure or security) deliver against the desired outcomes.

The job holder is expected to manage relationships at all levels, ranging from technical and business and through to executives’ level and whilst demanding, the job holder should extract huge satisfaction from their contribution to our dynamic and innovative business.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Have experience of the Scaled Agile Framework or equivalent.
  • Be able to demonstrable experience of Agile development approaches.
  • Knowledge of Insurance business and its drivers.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

Job responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability for the delivery of technical products into a business pillar, including the change, the run time environment and risk/audit landscape.
  • Ensures technology products are fit for purpose, performant, secure and are delivered to pre-agreed levels of service.
  • Responsible for monitoring Product performance and any risk/audit obligations and escalating any issues to the relevant teams. 
  • Maintaining Product Roadmaps that articulate the upcoming Epics/Features and the outcomes required from those changes.
  • Works with specialist technology and change capabilities to ensure the Roadmap contains all technical and non-technical change necessary to achieve the outcome in the Scoping and Shaping phases of change.
  • Works with Line of Business Product Managers and other stakeholders to ensure the technical Products deliver to the required vision and strategy.
  • Maintains robust controls over Product level spend, delivery team efficiency and Product value optimisation.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the agile ceremonies, including refinement, planning, sprint and retrospective.  The Senior Product Owner is the ultimate decision maker for the Scrum teams, ensuring day-to-day decisions are reached quickly to ensure maximum team velocity.
  • Accountable for planning functionality releases to maintain synchronicity with any dependent or dependency Products and any non-technical changes (such as training).
  • Ensures testing has appropriate coverage including signing off test and regression packs, the priority of any defects and any post-live warranty requirements.
  • Ensures the cadence and functional breadth/depth of change is in line with risk appetite.
  • Above all the Senior Product Owner should act as the voice of the customer/business to the delivery teams.
  • General
    • Actively manage risks, issues and dependencies  .
    • Develop scope, define and maintain backlog items, epics and user stories that guide the agile development teams.
    • Assess value, develops cases, and prioritises stories, epics and themes to ensure work focuses on those with a maximum value that are aligned with Product roadmap.
    • Solve product-related problems, make decisions, complete trade-off analysis.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders during the visioning and concept development of a product.
    • Act as an ambassador for the Product internally and externally and as the primary contact for queries related to the Product.
    • Comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times.
    • Ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times.
    • Any other reasonable duties.

Job-specific competencies

Experience & knowledge

  • Agile Project Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience of the Scaled Agile Framework or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience of Agile development approaches.
  • Knowledge of Insurance business and its drivers.
  • Team/People management desirable.
