We’re on the hunt for a talented Price Optimisation Manager to join our Retail Pricing team in either our Salford Quays, Manchester or Haywards Heath, West Sussex office. 

In this role you will spearhead the building of the pricing optimisation functionality within the Core Pricing team, utilising modelling building techniques. You will have a history of implementation and delivery of company objectives and the ability to help develop the pricing team.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Strong Radar experience
  • Good statistical knowledge
  • Proven record of implementing new models

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of analysts within the Retail Pricing Project Team ensuring delivery to targets
  • Spearhead and coordinate the building of predictive models using SAS, RADAR, EMBLEM, and other software packages
  • Monitor, maintain, update, and improve existing predictive models
  • Manage rate changes and implementation of new models and model updates
  • Apply statistical techniques including generalised linear modelling and non-linear methods to improve the performance of the company
  • Create an innovative approach which drives the business forward by introducing new Understand methods, making use of new data sources, and producing reporting suites to track performance
  • Manage the catalogue of data enrichment opportunities, evaluate new data sources, and actively search for available new data sources through marketplace reviews and trade discussions
  • Produce timely and accurate information for management decision-making purposes
  • Liaise with other departments on data issues, processes, and operational issues
  • Share business issues to find solutions to and make recommendations to improve customer outcome and profitability
  • Present findings and results in a clear and logical manner
  • Produce written reports and documentation of work completed
  • Provide input and advice into company strategy and the effective implementation of that strategy to meet requirements
  • Produce research that will improve business practice
  • Continuously learn new tools and techniques to stay ahead of the market
  • Develop and implement best practices for experimental design
  • Recruit, train, develop, and guide a team of analysts
  • Manage workloads and motivate direct reports to ensure engagement and productivity
  • Maintain an ethically-sound workplace culture of inclusivity, openness, ownership, collaboration, innovation, agility, and respect
  • Represent the Senior Retail Pricing Manager in meetings as and when required
  • Comply with the requirements, and act in accordance with, the Group Code of Conduct and Fitness and Propriety policies at all times
  • Ensure compliance with Company Policies, Values and guidelines and other relevant standards/ regulations at all times,
  • Any other reasonable duties as required

Job Specific Competencies:

Experience & knowledge

  • Strong background in statistical methods including non-linear modelling (machine learning)
  • Extensive hands-on experience with predictive modelling in a variety of settings
  • Experience with GLMs, GBMs, and other non-linear techniques
  • Proven ability to produce outstanding results based on own initiative
  • Experience in people and project management
  • Experience of personal lines insurance analysis and predictive modelling is an advantage
  • Experience of Radar, SAS, Emblem is an advantage
  • Broad knowledge of statistical methods and techniques, including machine learning
  • Good knowledge of motor insurance products and the motor insurance industry is an advantage
  • Solid understanding of the business objectives and operations is an advantage

Skills & qualifications

  • MSc in Maths, Physics, Computer Science, or a similar discipline
  • PhD in Maths, Physics, Computer Science or similar is an advantage
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adopt a logical approach to solving problems
  • Excellent data and statistical skills
  • Strong programming and IT skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • People and project management skills
