We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Data Modeller to join our Technology and Data team in Salford Quays, Manchester, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, or our offices in Guernsey. 

As FCG expand into new products and technologies, a pragmatic, practical Data Modeller ideally with expertise of the insurance industry is sought to create conceptual, logical, and physical data models for Cloud and on-premise data solutions at First Central Group. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand and translate requirements into data models, source to target mappings, and solution blueprints, to enable effective data solution delivery.  The Data Modeller will work across business domains, Architecture and Data Engineering teams to help build, optimise and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models to support new and existing change.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Have worked across all business domains, Architecture and Data Engineering teams to help build, optimise and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models to support new and existing change, across Cloud and on-premise Data solutions.
  • Be happy taking accountability for the development and implementation of data modelling standards and techniques across the company.
  • Chair the data modelling working group, driving the data modelling roadmap for the company

Job responsibilities:

The Data Modeller is responsible for understanding the Business’ requirement, coupling this with an in-depth knowledge of logical and physical data modelling and data solution design and will be responsible for defining and maintaining the logical and physical data models, working with Architecture and Data Engineering teams to develop solutions which meet Business need.

  • Be accountable for the development and implementation of data modelling standards and techniques into the group, including, but not limited to, naming conventions, coding standards.
  • Chair the data modelling working group and drive the data modelling roadmap for FCG.
  • Proactively identify business requirements by working closely with client business stakeholders to understand data needs.
  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for Cloud and on-premise Data solutions that drive high levels of quality and re-use and minimal amounts of redundancy.
  • Create data mapping documents to support flow of data from source to consumption that inform effective data solution development and enable clear lineage descriptions.
  • The creation of data solution blueprints, including the presentation and articulation of this to business and technical client stakeholders.
  • Translate technical data model concepts into forms that are understandable for senior stakeholders to engineering team members, flexing communication style as required.
  • Adhere to the Company values at all times and encourage others to demonstrate these.
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards/regulations at all times.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required.

Experience & knowledge

  • Cloud technology and data engineering experience with Azure.
  • Experience of working in an agile, iterative approach to delivery and working at pace with incomplete information.
  • Experience of data analysis, design and modelling techniques employed in dimensional data models, application software and APIs.
  • Experience in working on Data Lake, Warehouse and Reporting solutions, with Synapse and Databricks experience being an advantage.
  • Experience in conducting data profiling and data quality assessment.
  • Experience in establishing end to end data flows for data solutions.
  • Experience in Data cataloguing and MDM.
  • Hands on experience in working with enterprise grade Data modelling tools like ERwin.
  • Ability to effectively influence and lead multiple levels of an organisation across functional boundaries.
  • Experience in a Financial Services / Insurance environment.
